Registration & Billing

Registration

  • Clicking the "commit" button on your ISO education abroad application at www.studyabroad.virginia.edu confirms your participation in an education abroad program and obligates you to pay any associated education abroad tuition and fees.
  • If you are on a UVA program, you will be registered for education abroad by the International Studies Office once you "commit" to the abroad program. If you are on a Non-UVA program you will be registered once you "commit" and complete the post-acceptance requirements (with the exception of the "Travel Information" document).
  • You will be registered into a course titled ZFOR 3558 International Study. Your education abroad registration will keep you enrolled for the term, allow you to be billed appropriately and process any financial aid. It will also add a note to your academic transcript documenting your education abroad experience.
  • You should not register for courses on-grounds for the term you will be abroad.

Billing

  • Once registered, your bill will be posted to your Student Account. If you are participating on a UVA program you will be billed for tuition and associated program fees. UVA program participants should access their program's budget sheet for specific billing information.
  • If you are participating in a Non-UVA program you will be billed only the Study Abroad Administrative Fee and the Continuous Enrollment Fee by UVA. You will pay tuition and program fees directly to your program.
  • As some of you may already be abroad by the time bills are due, you may wish to have someone else (parent, guardian, or others) pay on your behalf. In order to do so, you must establish an authorized payer to allow access to view and pay your student account. Visit http://www.virginia.edu/studentaccounts/student_payment.html for instructions on how to establish an authorized payer.

Registering for Your Next Semester

  • Shortly before course enrollment begins (early November for spring semester; mid March for the fall semester), you will be able to log into the SIS to see your enrollment appointment, the date and time on which you can begin course enrollment.
  • Appointment times are assigned randomly by academic year; your time will not be impacted because you are abroad.
  • UREG (the University Registrar) will ensure that you are not given an Advisor Hold, but you will need to clear any and all other holds that you may have on your record.
  • You will enroll in courses through the SIS in the usual fashion.
  • If your appointment time is particularly inconvenient because of the international time difference or lack of access to the internet, you may send a list of your desired courses to UREG at ureg@virginia.edu, who will attempt to enroll you at the appropriate time. You should include a list of possible alternate courses. UREG will only enroll students during normal business hours (8am-5pm EST).
  • You can connect to the SIS through the link at the top of the UVA homepage.
  • Detailed instructions and useful tips for using the SIS are available through the "SIS Help, Guides, and Demos" link on the main log-in page.

Transcripts

  • Transfer Credit Programs: After you have completed your abroad program and UVA has received an official transcript documenting your courses abroad, the credits will appear on your UVA transcript.
  • Direct Credit Programs: Courses taken on direct credit programs will appear on your transcript when you are registered for study abroad. Grades will appear on your record and your transcript once the program's faculty director has entered grades into the SIS.
