Participation in study abroad constitutes an academically integral part of a student's UVA experiece. Eligible students work with their academic and study abroad advisors to select an appropriate program, to ensure award of academic credit for the work done abroad, and to prepare for the foreign experience through an extensive orientation program. Students who have followed all appropriate preparatory steps continue normal degree progress and retain eligibility for financial aid and for on-grounds housing upon return.
To be eligible for study abroad you must:
be a matriculated, degree seeking UVA student
have completed at least one semester at UVA (one year is recommended)
have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (some programs may require higher GPA for admission)
be in good academic standing (no academic warning)
be in good disciplinary standing
have attended a General Information Session (GIS) on Study Abroad
Before Departure, you must:
complete all required paperwork by the assigned deadline
secure pre-approval for credit transfer
attend the mandatory Study Abroad Pre-Departure Orientation
