  • Have the minimum GPA required to participate in a given program. Please refer to the Program brochure for the GPA requirement for a specific program.
  • Be in good standing at home institution, with no academic or disciplinary restrictions. This will be verified as a part of the application process (see Non-UVa Student Approval Form).

Preparation at your home institution

  • Consult with the appropriate academic and study abroad advisors at your home institution to learn more about your institution's study abroad process.
  • Research your institution's transfer of credit policy and make sure to complete all steps necessary to successfully transfer your credits from study abroad.
  • Compare dates of your potential study abroad program with your home institution's academic calendar to avoid any conflicts.
  • Contact your UVA study abroad advisor and/or program director for information and guidance.

Student status at UVA

Students accepted to a UVA Education Abroad program are admitted to the University of Virginia as non-degree seeking students during their term(s) abroad.

Admission to the study abroad program does not constitute admission to the University, nor does it allow students to register for the subsequent fall and spring semesters.
